Garden Parasols – How Many Types Are There?

There are two main types of garden parasols, firstly we have the classic freestanding parasol or as it is often referred to – centre pole parasol. This is one of the most popular purchases and is particularly beneficial should you wish to use the garden umbrella in multiple places such as on the patio, in the centre of your lawn or by the edge of the swimming pool. These smaller and more mobile garden umbrellas offer you great flexibility.
The second type of umbrella available is the side arm parasol or as they are more often referred as a cantilever parasol. A cantilever parasol is the perfect option for people who require a totally clear and unhindered space under their canopy. The cantilever parasol canopy maximises both usable space and comfort. A cantilever parasol eliminates the drawback of a centre pole umbrella. For example, you can position chairs, hammocks, tables, etc. directly below the canopy. A major advantage of cantilever parasols is that, unlike a traditional centre pole umbrella, a cantilever parasol won’t get in the way.
Top Range Materials Used For The Canopy
Our commercial parasols and garden umbrellas are offered in a choice of three canopy materials: Bamcrylic, Polyester and Recasens.
Bamcrylic® – is polyester which has gone through a process called solution dying. This type of material is very popular with most parasol designers and manufacturers. Solution dying gives polyester an extremely high resistance to fading from sunlight. Bamcrylic® also has good stain resistance as well as being water repellent. In addition, Bamcrylic® has a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of at least 50. This indicates what fraction of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can penetrate the fabric. For example, material with a UPF of 50, allows just 1/50th of the sun’s UV radiation to reach your skin. The higher the UPF (ultraviolet protection factor), the greater the protection.
Polyester – is a strong fibre that is resistant to creasing and keeps its shape well. The price of polyester covers is lower in comparison to Bamcrylic® covers due to the colour fastness of the darker materials, which is why Bambrella only offer two natural colours in the Polyester material.
Recasens RECacril® – is an acrylic fabric of the highest quality which guarantees the best water resistance and sun protection. As well as marine industries, Recasens is also popular with commercial businesses located in areas with challenging weather conditions.

Parasol Bases
When selecting a parasol base, you will have to first consider how you intend to place the parasol. You can opt for permanent installation or portable bases. If you will not be positioning your parasol at different spots, then the permanent fixture is what you need. If you’re into changing spots, the portable base is the way to go.
Do you prefer the portable bases, remember to select our recommended base weights to prevent them from falling over in windy conditions. Let’s say you are thinking of placing your garden umbrella through a sturdy table, you can use a lighter base as the table provides support. However, a base is still needed for stability and alignment.
Need medium to large garden parasols? Then we recommend heavier bases of granite or concrete weighing 50 to 70 kgs. For commercial parasols (4m or larger), consider cross bases with 4 x 30kg bases. For extra stability in windy conditions, consider adding additional tiles.
Instead, need a permanent spot for the parasol? Then select our in-ground base option. Around 80 cm of digging below your chosen spot would be required. This spot is then filled with concrete and the steel ground base sunk level with the ground. Eliminates tripping hazard, making it a popular choice for commercial parasols in hospitality and other establishments.

Parasol Heaters & Lights

Choose from 4-way heat lamps, electric heater or the 3kW remote-controlled parasol heater. Homes and commercial establishments can benefit from any of the three heater types, enabling outdoor use even in cold and rainy weather.
